Exactly three months to the day Stacy Lewis won the Kraft Nabisco Championship and celebrated with her mom Carol by jumping into Poppie’s Pond, which is tradition, another golfer celebrated in the same way with the same result: an injury.
Thomas Levet won the French Open and celebrated on the 18th hole by jumping into the pond at Le Golf National. The 42-year-old’s management company, IMG, confirmed today that the golfer is in a cast after breaking his shin and will be going through intensive treatment in hopes of being ready for the British Open in two weeks.
Stacy Lewis’ mom Carol nearly broke her leg while jumping into the pond, suffering a torn muscle from the leap into the waters.
Levet was close to winning the British Open last year but was topped by Ernie Els late in the tournament. My guess is that he won’t be as close this year after suffering this injury.
