Common sense is not that common and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s most recent outburst is proving that correct. I could just stop here and let you guess as to what was said from that ill advised picture above but it gets better.
Via the August issue of Men’s Journal, Harrison goes on a rant for the ages hitting on topics such as his hate for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Rashard Mendenhall and Ben Roethsliberger’s super bowl losing performances, the New England Patriots stealing signals, Brian Cushing, and former Patriots Rodney Harrison and Teddy Bruschi.
Although the issue has not reached news stands, here are a few excerpts that have made their way to the public:
“If that man (Goodell) was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn’t do it. I hate him and will never respect him.”
“Hey at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.” (On Roethlisberger in the 2011 Super Bowl)
“That guy is juiced out of his mind.” (Regarding Cushing)
Harrison goes on to call Bruschi and Harrison clowns and even state that the Patriots are Goodell’s boys.
Truth be told, other players in the league more than likely share the sentiment of Harrison regarding Goodell. It is Harrison’s willingness to state such feelings on record that separates him from them and dumb from smart. I understand that you want to be heard, but in doing so in such a manner just isn’t the intelligent way of going about the matter.
I hope Harrison is ready for the backlash sure to come from this. If I were his publicist…wait, there’s no way in hell he has a publicist if he got to this point. If I were his agent, I would begin interviewing publicists immediately because Harrison will need all the help he can get.
Congratulations James Harrison, you’ve just assured that you will remain atop Goodell’s hit list for the upcoming season.
