Vancouver Olympics silver medalist Jeret “Speedy” Peterson was found dead Monday night of an apparent suicide at around 9:30 p.m. in a mountainous area of Utah called Lambs Canyon.
According to a local Utah TV station, the Unified Police Department in Salt Lake County, Utah confirms they are investigating the death of the U.S. aerial freestyle skier. They received a call from Peterson informing them of his location before he took his own life. The Olympian reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Peterson won the silver medal in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in the freestyle skiing event.
Peterson was arrested Friday night for speeding and driving drunk. His attorney filed the paperwork on his behalf pleading not guilty to both charges but was unavailable for a comment today.
