Steve Smith wants out, but the Panthers who have been overpaying for players since free agency started isn’t inclined to let him go. They need to have someone around to have Cameron Newton to throw to.
I don’t think the Panthers will be as bad as they were last year, but don’t expect miracles overnight.
Pete Prisco of CBSports.com reports that Smith “almost certainly” isn’t going to be dealt.
The Panthers reportedly considered dealing Smith, but that changed in recent days as Smith apparently warmed to the idea of heading up a promising young receiver group. He met with the team Thursday morning.
Over the last couple of days Smith has been saying nice things about Carolina, my sources say don’t believe what you hear he wants out, but he isn’t going to make a big production about it.
Smith has to hope that the Panthers have caught lightening in a bottle with Cam Newton.
