As someone who is afraid of large bodies of water let me just say, if you are going swimming please make sure you go with someone or there is a life guard is near by.
I hear about stories like this all the time and it always breaks my heart.
According to the West Lafayette Journal and Courier, running back Sean Matti was reported missing to the local sheriff’s department late Sunday night. Matti was last seen roughly six hours earlier swimming in Lake Freeman.
The initial close-shore search by the Department of Natural Resources turned up nothing, and was called off due to darkness. The Journal and Courier writes that “a side-scan sonar boat searched the water near the residence this morning but nothing was found.”
All we can do at this point is hope and pray that Matti is found alive.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Matti family and friends.
UPDATE:
Lafayette, Indiana’s WLFI is reporting that the body of Sean Matti, a Purdue running back entering his fifth year with the team, was recovered Tuesday morning in Monticello’s Lake Freeman, where he disappeared while swimming at a friend’s house party Sunday night. The station also reports that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to Matti’s death, with other partygoers telling police they had been drinking, but Matti’s official cause of death has not yet been released.
