Ravens To Cut Veterans Derrick Mason, Todd Heap and Kelly Gregg

Out with old……

You know how the saying goes. When the lockout ended yesterday The Baltimore Ravens didn’t waste anytime letting go players who are a little up in age.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Baltimore Ravens has told wide receiver Derrick Mason (37), tight end Todd Heap (31) and defensive end Kelly Gregg (34) that they will be cut. The Ravens also told running back Willis McGahee that he will be let go.

“It’s a little bittersweet,” Mason told The Baltimore Sun. “I understand the business of football, and I understand what has to be done in the business of football. It was good while I was there. I can’t hang my head down. I think I did everything above and beyond what they asked me to do when I came in there six years ago. And I think everybody in that building can attest to that. If last year truly was my last year in a Ravens uniform, then I’ve enjoyed every bit of it.”

Not surprised that Mason was let go. His production dropped after the Ravens brought in Anquan Boldin last season. And they did draft Torrey Smith, wide receiver out of Maryland, so you new Mason was out the door.

I was surprised that they let go of Heap. Heap is one of the top tight ends in the league and Joe Waka Flacco loved him. But I guess the Ravens want to give the young guys – Ed Dickson, Davon Drew, and Dennis Pitta – a shot in the league.

But no worries for Heap. I’m pretty sure another team will pick up him up. He still has a few good years left in him.

  • Its such as you learn my mind! You seem to understand so much about this, such as you wrote the e-book in it or something. I feel that you just can do with a few p.c. to force the message home a little bit, but other than that, that is wonderful blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
