I think it’s safe to say that Hillgrove High School (Ga.) star running back Kenyan Drake has made a firm decision on his collegiate future. The rising senior found a rather creative and innovative way to let the world know that he was taking his talents to the University of Alabama. With the help of his barber, Drake received a haircut of the Alabama logo on his head in order to put all doubts to rest.
Each year NCAA football recruiting becomes more competitive, and high school players often find themselves unwanted targets of attacks from fans that are upset that their favorite school failed in landing a top prospect. In the case of Drake, a class of 2012 recruit, this bold decision is sure to draw some fire from the local Georgia and Georgia Tech supporters after he turned down offers from both schools. Considering that he still has a year of high school left, he must have been blown by what he heard from Nick Saban and the people at Alabama. When asked about how committed he was, he stated:
“I’m 110 percent …. I’m sold on everything that Alabama has to offer. I’m comfortable with the situation. I really like the coaches, the football tradition and the overall atmosphere. That’s my school.”
Until Kenyan Drake signs an official letter of intent next year, nothing is really finalized. However, his relatively early decision to “verbally commit” indicates that the crew at Alabama must be doing something right.
Perhaps, he wants to follow the footsteps of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. If Drake turns out to be anything like those two, then it will be safe to say that his bold and maybe premature decision, was the right one.
