When I was learning the game of football I really didn’t understand the purpose of the point-after-attempt (extra point) after a touchdown was scored. I mean scoring a touchdown should be enough, right?. Why does the kicker have to come in and kick an extra point?
Well Patriots coach Bill Belichick must fell the same as I do. Belichick was discussing his disappointment with the NFL’s new kickoff rules during his weekly appearance on “The Big Show” radio show on WEEI on Monday and explain why he’d do away with the point-after-attempt.
“Philosophically, plays that are non-plays shouldn’t be in the game. I don’t think it is good for the game. Extra points, when the odds are 99 percent range in extra points it is not a play. Lets move the ball back to the 15-20 yard line and not make it a tap in. Let them kick it. Same thing with the kickoff return, if you’re just going to put the ball on the 20, put the ball on the 20,”
I definitely agree with Belichick on both the extra point and kick-off rules. I’m very upset about the new kick-off rules. Its stupid. They might as well just put the ball on the 20-yard line because you won’t get any kick-off returns with the ball being kicked-off from the 35-yard line.
So I say change the kick-off rule back to the way it was and just make a touchdown 7 points and do away with the point-after-attempt.
