Bo Jackson Works His Post-MLB/NFL Career as a Bank Director

When you think about Bo Jackson, usually thoughts of playing mutiple sports and being an all-world athlete comes to mind but he’s taking fans by surprise after a Yahoo! Sports interview revealed his new occupation as part owner and director of a suburban Chicago bank.

The former Oakland Raider and Cincinnati Red is no stranger to the banking industry, having worked as a bank teller in his days in college at Auburn. Jackson is now 48-years-old and working at the Burr Ridge Bank & Trust.

“When you are a teller, you are a teller,” Jackson explained. “You know how to do cash-ins, cash-outs, debits, credits and balancing your cash box at the end of the day.”

However, Jackson is now the owner and calling the shots serving as one of the 21 owners and directors of his own financial institution.

“I am constantly learning about the bank,” Jackson said. “I can’t go tomorrow and run the financial district if that’s what you’re asking. But you learn something every meeting.”

Jackson’s bank is actually doing well and is one of the top ranked in the country.

“We are one of the top small community banks in the country right now,” he said. “And it’s not because of me, it’s because of 21 directors working their butts off to make sure everything’s done right and we are treating people like people want to be treated when they come to the bank.”

In his spare time, Jackson is still participates in athletics, but has hung up his football cleats and baseball glove for a set of golf clubs. He also has a massive, 88,000-square foot dome sporting facility and non-profit organization for children to run. I guess now it can be said that Bo also knows banking.
