The first thing you need to know is this report is coming from the infamous anonymous sources.
Before I let you know if there is any truth to it here is what they had to say.
A recent report by Dan Pompei of National Football Post suggests that neither is a lock to remain with the team before the season opener. Pompei quotes a fellow league executive who believes Belichick is using both players to increase his hold on the Patriots’ locker room.
One NFL executive familiar with the Patriots ways told me he believes one or both of the big name acquisitions will be cut before the season starts. The front office man thinks coach Bill Belichick will use the controversial players to help control and send a message to his locker room.
Half of what they are saying I believe is true. Haynesworth isn’t safe. I have confirmed that myself, if he slacks or screw up in any way he will gone. While he would be a nice addition, the Patriots are not counting on him as a key piece. If he becomes that, it would be great, but they are looking at him more as a situational player.
I would be shocked if OchoCinco is cut. Ignore Chad’s off the field activities, he is nowhere near the locker room issue of say a Randy Moss or Terrell Owens. He practices hard and does his job. Plus the Patriots need a vertical wide receiver to help open up things for Wes Welker and all the Wes Welker type receivers and tight ends they have on the roster.
Bill Belichick is trying to win. The best players are going to play. If any player gets out of line, they will be shown the door that isn’t exclusive to Ocho and Haynesworth that is the entire Patriots roster.
So take this report with a grain of salt.
