Not exactly sure what Eli was drinking before this interview, but if it made him believe he was in the class of Tom Brady, they should ban the drink immediately.
Here is what he had to say.
“I consider myself in that class and Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he’s a great player and what you’ve seen with him is he’s gotten better every year and he started off winning championships and I think he’s a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships,” Manning said Tuesday. “It’s funny, you say well he won championships, but the team, but I think know he’s grown up and gotten better every year and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
I sort of get what Eli is trying to say, but here is the reality of the situation. Eli has “ring protection”. He has won a Super Bowl and that is why he isn’t considered an underachiever even though he was drafted #1 overall.
He is a good (maybe very good if you are being generous), but not a great quarterback, not yet at least.
If you push came to shove would you really take Eli over Philip Rivers? Not many would, but Eli has the ring and the fact he won the Superbowl on one of the greatest last minute drives of all time, that had a signature play that is considered one of the greatest plays of all time he will always be a bit of a Teflon quarterback.
