ESPN has hired Jerry Rice to be on air talent during the NFL season. Rice is the greatest wide receiver of all time and one of the best player of all time period, but he isn’t the most engaging personality.
With that being said he was asked about what he thought about Randy Moss, now that Moss is retired for the time being, here is what he had to say.
“It was hard for me to swallow because I was not as talented and I had to work harder,” Rice said. “To see a guy with that much talent not give it 100 percent, it was almost like a little slap in the face. But Randy was Randy.”
“He could have been one of the greatest if he had worked just a little bit harder,” Rice said. “I don’t think he wanted to give it 100 percent. You never knew what you were going to get with Randy. Sometimes you’d get the unbelievable guy, the amazing guy. Other times you’d get the guy that took a couple plays off.”
Nothing groundbreaking being said by Rice, I can understand why he takes it a little personal, even though he shouldn’t. Everyone is different, everyone can’t have the same work ethic as a Rice, Jordan or Kobe that is what makes them special.
One thing that Rice is incorrect is Moss not being one of the greatest players ever, I think most people would put him in that category especially among other receivers. Considering a lot of people thought Moss would be in jail or a bust I think he exceeding expectations.
I don’t think Moss cares what Rice has to say, he is probably blazing up right now just enjoying his time off.
