Seven former players have sued the NFL in Philadelphia over concussion-related injuries. The players include former Chicago Bears quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon.
The suit accuses the NFL of negligence and intentional misconduct in its response to the headaches, dizziness and dementia that former players have reported. This potential class-action lawsuit is the first of its kind
Filed Wednesday, the suit seeks medical monitoring along with funds to pay for the care of injured players.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says the league will vigorously contest the claims.
Lawyer Larry Coben of Philadelphia says one client may lose his home because of his health-related problems.
I do feel sorry for the former NFL players as I’ve seen documentaries where some can hardly walk anymore and are in such bad shape because they were hurt too often and/or too badly. And lots of them didn’t make the kind of ridiculous dollars today’s players do. But at the same rate, did they need the League to tell them how dangerous professional football was?
