Let me first say congratulations to Larry Fitzgerald.
Now that we got that out of the way, let me say the Cardinals have made a huge mistake in my opinion. Fitzgerald is a top 3 Wide Receiver, but Wide Receivers aren’t Franchise players.
It doesn’t matter if they gave Fitzgerald $200 million if he doesn’t have a consistent quarterback, Fitzgerald will be making it rain, but the Cardinals will suffer.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Arizona will sign Larry Fitzgerald to a record eight-year, $120 million contract that includes close to $50 million guaranteed.
The deal makes Fitzgerald the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, and may very well keep the 27-year-old Fitzgerald in Arizona for the rest of his career.
You simply shouldn’t pay Wide Receivers like quarterbacks even the elite ones. Not when you have numerous holes in your team like the Cardinals.
I know why they did it, but in the end I think it will backfire.
