For those of us who are fans of basketball and the beauty of the game have wonder for years if Lebron James would ever develop any type of post game.
He is awful in the post which is ashamed because he would be a mismatch for anyone who would try to guard him on the low block.
Lebron is a gifted passer, finisher and his jumper has improved a lot. He is physically intimidating but as you get older in this league you have to learn to be more crafty.
All the legendary players have honed their games and added little wrinkles as they went along. Lebron game hasn’t really evolved much since he has gotten into the league, he is just bigger.
I compare him to Wladimir Klitschko, you know what is coming jab, jab, jab, right hand and occasional left hook, but you can’t stop it. Same with Lebron you can slow him down and hope he gets frustrated, but for the most part at this stage of his career he is going to still get his points.
At least he recognizes that won’t last forever and has enlisted Hakeem for help.
Lebron’s also trying to deliver on his vow to be even better whenever the Heat resume play, saying he’s been in Houston at times this offseason to learn post play from one of the game’s all-time greats, former Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon.
“I look at what he was able to do throughout his career,” James said. “Unbelievable talent. Multiple champion. Just to see how he was able to dominate in the low post, for me as an individual, I just try to look at some of the things I feel I need to get better at and hit home at it. Our team becomes better if I continue to get better and that’s what it’s about.”
It definitely can’t hurt playing with the Dream, I don’t expect Lebron to become Kevin Mchale overnight, but it is a start.
Someone of his size should be abusing people in the post and not hanging out on the perimeter as much as he does, I hope to see improvement in that part of his game if we have a NBA season.
