Here is what Vick told GQ:
“I think I can say this now, because it’s not going to hurt anybody’s feelings, and it’s the truth… I didn’t want to come to Philadelphia. Being the third-team quarterback is nothing to smile about. Cincinnati and Buffalo were better options.”
Those two teams wanted him and would’ve allowed him to start, but after meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell and other reps from the NFL, Vick was convinced—and granted league approval—to sign with Philly. “And I commend and thank them, because they put me in the right situation.”
Here is what Vick just released:
“The Commissioner never told me to sign or not sign with particular teams.”
Vick says his decision to sign with Philly — and not Cincy or Buffalo — was based on talks with his family, agent and coach Andy Reid.
One of these statements isn’t true and knowing what we now about Roger Goodell Gotti, I am going to assume that Vick was told in no uncertain terms to clean up his mess.
The reason why I believe what Vick told GQ is true is because he starts his statement with…………
“I think I can say this now, because it’s not going to hurt anybody’s feelings, and it’s the truth.”
Meaning he knew he couldn’t say it back then, but was comfortable saying it now. Vick isn’t the smartest guy. I don’t have any question in my mind that Roger Goodell Gotti heavily influenced Vick’s decision to sign with Eagles.
The problem with that is if you are are the Bengals and Bills in the back of your mind you know you could have had a quarterback to change your franchise, but because of Roger Goodell Gotti the Eagles are Super Bowl contenders while you are the Bengals and Bills.
Roger Goodell has way too much power and influence over the league. He is making up rules and punishments as he goes along and at some point he is going to truly overstep and cast a dark cloud over the NFL.
Mark my words.
