Floyd Mayweather will take on Victor Ortiz at the MGM Grand on Saturday night.
This will be Floyd’s best opponent in years, but I think he will prevail and I will tell you why.
1- Andre Berto
Mayweather was in attendance for the Ortiz vs. Berto fight. While it was the fight the put Ortiz back on the map, someone as astute in boxing as Mayweather saw the same thing I saw.
While Ortiz fought with passion, he also made a ton of mistakes. A boxer more skill than Berto would have taken advantage of those opportunities (Berto did score two knockdowns). Berto is a Division III version of Floyd Mayweather, don’t look for Floyd to make the same mistakes Berto did.
2- History
Once again many focus on Ortiz’s fight with Berto, but Ortiz history shows up that he hasn’t been dominant even against suspect competition.
We all know what happened with Marcos Maidana, he couldn’t knock out Nate Campbell and fought to a draw with Lamont Peterson.
What will happen if things aren’t going Ortiz’s way? Will he quit again?
3- Experience
Floyd Mayweather is in his element. He is use to the spotlight and big fights against big time opponents. For Ortiz he is going from fighting in 4000 seat arenas on HBO to a 18k seat arena on the Biggest PPV of the year. To his credit he doesn’t seem affected, but we will see what happens when he is actually in the ring, I think he will be overwhelmed by the moment.
4- Defense
Ortiz has little, Mayweather is considered one of the greatest defensive fighters in the history of boxing. Everyone agrees that Ortiz has power, but will he be able to use it if he can never land a shot?
Watch highlights of Floyd Mayweather, he is the master of going forward or backwards and still has the ability to land power punches will not taking any in return.
The one thing that should concern Ortiz is even when Mayweather has been caught with a flush shot, he has been able to withstand it and normally comes back to dominate, ask Shane Mosley.
5- Ricky Hatton
The last aggressive fighter Mayweather faced was Ricky Hatton. Who said he would pressure him and knock him out. He came in undefeated and he left like this.

Victor Ortiz is simply not skilled enough to handle Floyd Mayweather. This is boxing where one punch can always change the outcome of the fight, so Ortiz as always has a puncher’s chance.
The only way Mayweather loses this fight is if similar to Roy Jones Jr. his skills have diminished to the point he will leave himself open to a KO.
I have seen nothing to believe that will happen. Look for the fight to be interesting for the first four rounds until Mayweather figures Ortiz and then the domination will take place.
Mayweather by Unanimous Decision.
