Nike has done some impressive things in the past with the brand and are continuing to cash in on their creativity. The top ranked clothing company unveiled new uniforms and accessories for college teams they sponsor in the season’s opening weekend.
While I’m sure the uniforms won’t do much for the players abilities on the field, they will do wonders for Nike executive’s pockets who thought of the idea. Every football fan in America is going to want one of these jerseys that look like a recreation of the uniforms from the video game NFL Blitz.
Yahoo! Sports reported the date that the teams plan to unveil the new looks:
Tuesday, Nike rolled out alternative “Pro Combat” looks for four teams: LSU (which plans its all-white look for Oct. 22 vs. Auburn), Stanford (Nov. 27 vs. Notre Dame), Michigan State (Oct. 15 vs. Michigan) and Ohio State (Oct. 29 vs. Wisconsin). And frankly, as widely reviled alternative uniforms go, they’re not exactly reinventing the wheel. LSU’s white helmet and white pants are more or less the usual design, only white instead of gold/yellow. Michigan State is going with a gold lid and gold numbers after decades of remaining exclusively green and white. Stanford, too, is breaking up an eternity of white helmets for a black dome against the Fighting Irish, but the red-on-red combination below the neck is nearly identical to the one Georgia wore against Boise State on Sept. 3, give or take a few degrees in the shade of red.
Looks like Nike has done it again and will continue making the big bucks over all other clothing companies. I’m sure we’ll see people who has never played football in their lives wearing those gloves and kids will be asking for them for Christmas. Not gonna help them catch a ball, unless its got glue on them.
