Now that the Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Michael Beasley have finished their basketball tour in China, details are starting to emerge about their health conditions during the trip.
According to the China Hoops blog NIUBball.com, Beasley and Paul Pierce both suffered asthma attacks during Mondays game playing for a team called the Kentucky Bisons in Shaungyshan, China. The suspected reason for both NBA players suffering asthma attacks is China arenas allow smoking inside and the players may have been affected.
Here’s how NIUBball.com is reporting it:
While playing in Shuangyashan, Heilongjiang province… Pierce and Beasley both suffered asthma attacks due to large amounts of fans smoking cigarettes inside the stadium. After the game, things got even more shocking when Beasley fell to the floor in his hotel and started to roll around in obvious pain, scaring everyone around half-to-death. At that point, there was no choice but to dial 120 (the number for an ambulance in China) and take him to the hospital.
Beasley also suffered a wrist injury in the game, but decided to participate in a dunk contest anyway, resulting in Beasley injuring his wrist further which isn’t the best news without health insurance as a result of the lockout.
Pierce appears to be fine. Considering he was 11 years removed from having stab injuries to his chest and lungs, him having an asthma attack could’ve been much worse.
Can’t blame the people of China for doing what they’re used to. If Americans go overseas trying to change their laws I’m sure it’ll be an even bigger problem.
