When I was 16 years old I performed my first rap song during a pep rally at my high school.  I was super nervous, but I got through it.  Ten years later, after several mix tapes, 100s of performances, many freestyle battles, one independent record deal and 1000s of hours spent hoping for my big break I had to make a decision.

Continue on the path or start a new path.

As you can see I chose a new path, one that luckily for me has been a tad bit successful.  So when Bob Sanders thinks about retirement he shouldn’t see it as an ending, but a new beginning.

Rumors and Rants have the details.

While most of us probably saw this coming, word has come out from several sources that former All-Pro safety Bob Sanders is not expected to play again. The 30-year-old veteran was placed on injured reserve by the San Diego Chargers last week thanks to a knee injury and is likely headed for retirement.

Sanders was once one of the most feared players in the NFL and, when healthy, was also one of the league’s top play-makers. Unfortunately for the diminutive safety he just couldn’t actually stay on the field.

Sanders has finished each of the last four seasons on IR, and has played in just nine games over the past three years. The Iowa product has also never played a full 16-game season. He did manage to stay healthy for 15 games in 2007 and all he did was win the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Here is a crazy stat about Sanders.  He has been in the league for 8 years, but only has played 49 games.  That’s one game over three years of playing time.  He spent well more time on sidelines hurt, than on the field.

When he did play he was a game changer and I will always argue Peyton Manning would not have a Super Bowl ring if not for the Bob Sanders defensive MVP season. Go back and watch all the Colts playoffs game from that year, it was Sanders who was making the play that needed to be made.

If he does retire we wish him well on whatever this new path takes him.

I thought this article was supposed to be about Bob Sanders. Did you dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back?
