While you were sleeping, or perhaps while you were watching perhaps the greatest World Series game in Major League Baseball history, University of Houston Quarterback Case Keenum was having his own game for the ages. While leading the #17 Ranked Cougars to a 73-34 victory over visiting Rice, Keenum completed 24 of 37 pass attempts for 534 yards and 9 – yes 9 – touchdowns, setting a new FBS record for career touchdowns with 139. Keenum had actually broken the previous record of 134 set by former Texas Tech signal caller Graham Harrel with his fifth touchdown pass of the game.
Keenum might be a little young to be inspired to put up Super Tecmo Bowl numbers as his NFL doppleganger Drew Brees did on Sunday against the Colts, perhaps some early version of Madden inspired him to go absolutely nuts against his conference and in-state rival. Or maybe it was just the idea of having the college football spotlight to himself last night, giving him a solo showcase for the likes of the Heisman Trophy voters. Unfortunately for Keenum, the Cardinals vs. Rangers game may have stolen just a bit of his thunder.
