Dwyane Wade is a great player, no one questioning that.

I don’t think though any star player has changed as much from when they came into the NBA than D Wade.  It isn’t bad thing, change is good at time, just interesting to see how he had evolved over the years.

He had a feature on GQ and gave us this revelation.

“Three years ago I was like, ‘Man, I kind of want to paint my toenails black,’ ” Wade tells me. We’re on-set at a Manhattan photo studio right now his feet are covered by striped Paul Smith socks and size 14 Jordans. “At first I thought, ‘Nah, I can’t do that. They’re going to kill me.’ But eventually I decided to try it.”

He went to Miami’s Mondrian hotel and asked a shocked pedicurist to give him the Marilyn Manson treatment. “Later I was on vacation in the Bahamas with LeBron,” Wade says, laughing, “and when he saw my toes he was like, ‘Something is seriously wrong with you.’ But eventually Bron was like, ‘You know what? You’re crazy, but that’s just you.’ When I first got into the league, I tried to fit in. Now I don’t care.”

I understanding not being concerned about fitting in as Lebron says, but are you fooling yourself by trying extra hard to stand out?

Painted toenails, receding hairlines and suspect fashion choices in the long run mean nothing. The South Beach NWO will only be judged by one thing.

  1. I was sitting in the nail salon recently and a very man-ly man came in and he is obviously a regular. Anyways, when I saw the manicurist pull out the black polish for his toes I was like “I have to say something”. He says his wife loves it and I must admit – it was pretty haute “in a private kind of moment way” – I don’t need D-Wade flaunting his OPI Black Majic in the flip-flops.
