Carson better be very good considering what the Raiders gave up for him.
Here are the details of the deal according to ESPN.
Carson Palmer to the Raiders now official. Compensation expected to be a 1 in 2012 and a conditional 1 in 2013.
This is very easy deal to break down. If Palmer leads the Raiders to the Super Bowl or multiple playoff appearances in the next couple of years, then it will be worth it. If he doesn’t the Raiders will take major steps back because they have virtually no draft picks over the next two years. It was a huge gamble on their part, but they are the Raiders. If the Raiders win a playoff game this year, the Bengals get a #1 pick in 2013, if not it becomes a 2nd round pick in 2013.
Mike Brown has been called the worst owner in the NFL, but he played this perfectly, by not bowing down to Palmer demands he maximized his trading potential.
Now he has a budding star in Andy Dalton and multiple first round picks to start building a solid foundation for the future.
I don’t say this often, but well played Bengals. Well played.
