With Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z moving the New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn, there will suddenly be no NBA team based in the great state of New Jersey. Many residents in New Jersey feel a certain way about this and one its the bigger residents, would like to capitalize on the opportunity.
Since being retired, Shaq hasn’t left the public eye — and it looks like he doesn’t intend on doing so anytime soon. In an interview with the New York Times, he revealed his intentions to own an NBA team:
I’m looking forward to bringing a team to Newark. I haven’t spoken to Mayor Booker about it yet, but I’m working on it. I know Newark can support an N.B.A. team. And I’m going to be one of the guys that’s going to bring a team there.
Shaq was born in Newark, New Jersey and that’s his hometown so I’m sure he will do everything possible to get an NBA team there. Personally, I wouldn’t doubt Shaq — he has a way of making unusual things happen. For example, who knew that one of Shaq’s albums went platinum? Shoulder shrug.
Personally, I feel that Shaq will make this happen. Give him about 8-10 years and he might get a hold of an NBA team and move it to Newark. I’m sure as an owner, his players would love him if he didn’t make them work out.
Never question the Big Aristotle.
