When Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg while in a nightclub a few years ago, many people thought it was not only stupid that he went to jail over it, but that it was stupid he shot himself to begin with.
Turns out shooting yourself in the leg might be more common than originally thought.
According to MyFoxBoston.com, a 50-year-old man shot himself in the leg while sitting in his car with his wife in the parking lot at Gillette Stadium before the New England Patriots game against the New York Giants.
“I can confirm that there was an accidental discharge of a handgun resulting in a self-inflicted wound to a patron in a parking lot prior to today’s game,” said Patriots spokesman Stacey James. “The patron was treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition.”
Chief Edward O’Leary says the man was trying to empty the chamber of a licensed handgun when it discharged at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
The man was in a car with his wife, who was not injured. No names were made public. He was taken to a hospital, but his wound is not considered life-threatening. Police took possession of the gun.
Unlike Plaxico, at least this poor guy had a valid license to carry his handgun on him!
