Stephen Laine, Vanessa Bryant’s Ex-Step Dad Says She is Gold Digger Like Her Mom

It is hard to consider Vanessa Bryant a gold digger.

It is true that the way she ended up marrying Kobe was under unusual circumstances, but if she wanted to milk Kobe for all his cash she would have done like Tiger’s wife and left him at his lowest moments.

She didn’t do that, she stuck it out when a lot of women would have taken their check and ran.  With that being saying her former step dad says this was an elaborate plot set up by Vanessa Bryant using the blueprint from her mom.

TMZ spoke with Stephen Laine — an inventory manager for a food company who was married to Vanessa’s mother from 1990 to 2003 … and helped raise Vanessa from a child into adulthood.

Laine tells us, “Her mother taught her well to wait for the ten-year mark [before divorcing].”

He explains, “In California … it’s considered a long term marriage and then she gets paid for life or until she remarries … just like her mother is doing to me.”

Laine continues, “I have to pay her mom $1,800 every month and clearly they don’t need it.”

Sources close to Vanessa tell us …  Kobe’s soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law is currently living in one of the BBaller’s mansions … and we’re told Vanessa is very good to her.

Laine gripes, “I have a six-year-old daughter and that money could be used toward her college fund or something … you’d think she’d care .. but no, she’s spiteful.”

Laine sounds bitter.

I might be bitter too if I had to pay $1800 a month when I knew my ex-wife was not hurting for money in any shape, form or fashion.  He does make an interesting point about “10 year rule”.

The overall point though is Kobe got himself into this situation and he has to deal with it going forward.

  1. These guys in the NBA are never gonna learn. If you value your money, then at least protect it.

    1) Don’t have kids out of wedlock

    2) Have a pre-nup

Kobe didn’t listen to his father. And now he’s going to pay. Vanessa Bryant served that dish cold, too.
