I get on Ray from time to time for being overly preachy.
Everything sounds like a sermon (hence the nickname Reverend Ray Lewis), but I know that Ray truly does care for his teammates and appreciates the game of football.
I would rather have a leader who cares too much than not at all.
This couldn’t be more clear than in Lewis’ post game speech in the locker room after the Ravens heartbreaking loss to the Patriots. Two things stand out immediately.
He stresses this is a team game and not to blame one person for any loss.
The second thing, and most important part, is when he speaks about how the NFL is just a game and to remember that there are far worse things going on in our society.
He ends his speech by saying to remember to make someone smile when you leave the locker room.
No one cares more about winning than Ray Lewis, but to have that type of perspective after losing the game the way they did, shows everyone why Ray isn’t just a Hall of Fame player, but a Hall of Famer as a man.
