A nephew of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was among a group of six men shot at in a convenience store in Chicago during a particularly violent 6 1/2 stretch across Chicago that saw a total of 13 people shot, including 2 fatally.
The shooting occurred at a convenience store in Chicago’s South Side at 6 P.M. The police identified the shooters as hooded men who fled in an SUV. One of the shooting victims died at the scene and 4 others (including Wade’s nephew) were injured.
Wade, who has been in the forefront of the Trayvon Martin tributes by changing his Twitter avatar and participating in a group shot of the Miami Heat in hoodies, commented on that case by saying “As a father, this hits home.”
Unfortunately for him and his family, similar violence hit even closer to home.
Before the Heat’s game in Toronto, Wade released the following in a written statement.
“I don’t have all of the details at this time, My thoughts and prayers are with all involved, including my nephew and sister. Having grown up in the inner-city, I am aware of the difficult realities that exist on the streets. One of the goals of my foundation, the Wade’s World Foundation, is to continue to spread the message that the violence needs to stop.”
With all the “South Beach nWo” and Heat being “villains” talk, we can forget that these are real people. Some are real people who had rough upbringings that have families that still live in some dangerous places.
We hope all the victims pull through and prayers are with those who lost their loved ones in the latest spree in one of the most violent cities in the United States.
