Mike Tyson is an intelligent guy.
A lot of people don’t realize that because all they remember are the crazy press conferences, biting ears and what not, but Tyson when he is focused speaks with an understanding of society that is unique and provocative.
The quote that is going to get all the attention is him saying Zimmerman should be shot, but if you read the entire quote many of the things that he is saying are spot on.
“My personal feeling is that, as a young kid that was beat on by a bully, that was pretty much singled out—the guy [Zimmerman] stalked him, didn’t follow instructions from a superior officer, when they said, ‘Stop following the kid.’ That tells you everything right there. But my all-around perspective, I wasn’t there, I don’t know what happened. But it’s just so widespread and overt what happened. Even though this is the best country in the world, certain laws in this country are a disgrace to a nation of savages. It’s a majority versus a minority. That’s the way God planned it.
He didn’t want to do something about it, He wanted us to do something about it. And if we don’t, it’s gonna stay this way. We have to continue tweeting, we have to continue marching, we have to continue fighting for Trayvon Martin. If that’s not the case, he was killed in vain, and we’re just waiting for it to happen to our children. He’ll have gotten away with impunity. It’s a disgrace that man hasn’t been dragged out of his house and tied to a car and taken away. That’s the only kind of retribution that people like that understand. It’s a disgrace that man hasn’t been shot yet. Forget about him being arrested--the fact that he hasn’t been shot yet is a disgrace. That’s how I feel personally about it.”
The first part of the quote is very profound to me and is something that I have discussed with people about the Trayvon Martin tragedy.
Zimmerman was told not to follow him, if he follows that order, none of this happens.
What motivated Zimmerman to not listen to those orders? Was it the hoodie? Was it because Trayvon was a young black man? Was it because he had a gun and believed he was above the law?
No one knows specifically what happened after Zimmerman decided to do things on his on, but at the moment he decided to go against orders and not follow the law he became a HUNTER and that leads to the savage mentality Tyson is speaking of.
I don’t think he should be dragged out in the street and shot, because then that makes us no different than him. It turns us into savages, but we can hope that justice is served and Zimmerman goes to jail for the rest of his life.
