This is the same DeAngelo Hall who had memory loss off drinking Blue Moon (DeAngelo Hall Says He Can’t Remember Last Night Cause He Was Drunk Off Blue Moon) so take all of his comments with a grain of salt.
You can kind of see the specialness coming out of him. You can see the swag and the confidence and his ability to make plays. I’ve actually…I’ve talked to him even before we drafted him. I kind have already knew we were going to get him. We had a great chance to get him barring anything crazy happening at the draft.
Me and him have been talking for the last 4 or 5 months now and I told him the scary part is his progression now as a quarterback and an athlete…seeing Michael Vick coming into the league. I feel like he’s light years ahead of Michael Vick because he understands mentally what it takes to be great. Mike felt like he could go out athletically and be great. RGIII is like I know athletically I’m pretty good, but I want to be mentally great. If I can be mentally great and athletically good or great then it is scary. His ability to want to be that great quarterback now and just a great athlete is what is going to separate him from all the other guys out there.”
I understand what Hall is saying and he has a unique perspective seeing that he played with Vick in his younger Falcons days.
Two problems though.
One, RG3 isn’t the same type of quarterback that Vick was coming out of college, so it is tough to make a comparison. Secondly, the reason Vick thought he could get away with just athletically ability was because he was so much more athletically gifted than anyone else playing the position.
RG3 is athletic, but similar to Vince Young, Alex Smith or Cam Newton he couldn’t just get by on athletic gifts alone, Vick could for awhile.
He might be light years ahead of Vick in Hall’s eyes now, but the true test of his mental ability is when DeMarcus Ware is coming off the edge, then we will see.
