I have seen this coming for awhile.

The plan got off track when Khan lost to Lamont Peterson, but now it is back on track since Peterson was caught using steroids.

Khan only has to beat Danny Garcia and he will be on the Mayweather train.

AMIR KHAN could be handed the perfect birthday present this year – a £5million fight with Floyd Mayweather Junior.

The Bolton fighter’s US promoters Golden Boy are looking at a clash with Mayweather and have circled December 8 – Khan’s 26th birthday – as the most likely date.

The British boxer plans to step up to welterweight if he beats WBC champ Danny Garcia to become the world’s No.1 light-welterweight.

Ellerbe has been in Las Vegas this week and was spotted chatting to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer on Wednesday. Schaefer said: “Mayweather is something I’ll be discussing with Amir and his family.

“We will then decide if it’s better to have a fight first at 147lbs or go direct for Mayweather. It’s a fight both fighters seem to want and it’s up to me to try and put it together.”

Khan is a huge international draw (not so much in the USA), so you can see the wheels turning from the Money Team. Mayweather off his name alone can draw a million PPV buys, if he can get a cut of the international profits then he is looking at possibly a bigger payday than his fight with Miguel Cotto.

I don’t think Mayweather will be available in December, he gets out of jail next month and rushing him back might be a recipe for an upset.

But, don’t be shocked if we see a Mayweather vs. Khan fight soon.
