What in the blue hell is going on?

I know it is a little rough in Baltimore, but kidnapping Cal Ripken Jr’s mom seems a bit extreme.

Authorities say a male approached Mrs. Ripken, showed a handgun and forced her into her vehicle. They then left the area. Sources tell WBAL Radio News that Mrs. Ripken was duct taped.

Aberdeen police received a call from Baltimore County police last night around 8:30. Officials with that police department received a call about a suspicious vehicle around Ebenezer Road.

She was found unharmed in her vehicle near her home around 6 a.m. this morning. She was checked by medics and reported to be uninjured. She is now resting with family members, according to a release from the Aberdeen Police Department.

Police are looking for a white male in his late 30′s to early 40′s. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt, camouflage pants and eyeglasses.

Good to know that she is safe.

While the police aren’t giving too much information, being the junior detective that I am, I figure one of two things happened.  This was a random kidnapping that was going to turn into a robbery until the kidnapper realized who he had wasn’t just a regular old lady.

Realizing that doing any harm to Cal Ripken’s mom would become not just local but national story he just abandoned the plan.

The second scenario is he knew who he was kidnapping was going to try to collect a ransom, but chickened out.

Either way she is very lucky to end up unharmed.
