Chargers running back Ryan Mathews suffered minor injuries around midnight Monday when he was in a two-vehicle collision in the Sports Arena area.

The 24-year-old NFL player was entering east Interstate 8 at Sports Arena Boulevard when he lost control of his 2010 BMW and hit another vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Mary Bailey said Tuesday.

He complained of pain and was taken to a hospital to be examined. It appears that Mathews was driving too fast, Bailey said.

Good news there was no drugs or alcohol involved, but please slow down on the roads.
