Charles Barkley Says Only KD, Lebron & Kobe Would Make Original Dream Team

This all started with Kobe Bryant saying the 2012 Olympic Basketball team would beat the 1992 Dream Team. My thought is if every player was available for the 2012 team they would have a very good shot and I would give them a slight edge.

This current team not so much.

Someone asked Charles Barkley about it and here is what he had to say.

Not surprisingly, the always candid Charles Barkley had something to say about Kobe’s assessment. During a pointed commentary on the Mike Missanelli Show, the Hall of Famer said he laughed when he first heard the all-star’s take because the ’92 team wouldn’t just beat the new squad but blow them out by double digits.

How old is Kobe Bryant? He’s 34? And he’s calling us old? At the time, we were only like 28, 29. Michael Jordan and me were the same age. We were both 29. Other than Kobe, LeBron and Kevin Durant, I don’t think anybody else on that team makes our team.

Barkley is probably right the Dream Team was stacked, but I think they should simulate the game in NBA2k13 and see what happens.

  • At it’s intended full strength, the 2012 squad would be deeper, by virtue of not having a half-speed Magic Johnson, a quarter-speed Larry Bird, and bone-tossed-to-purists Christian Laetner on the team.

But that’s more than countered by the fact that, of the remaining nine players, eight were in-their-prime members of the 50 Greatest Players of All Time list. And the ninth was Chris Mullin, who would probably make a Top 100 list.

’92 team by at least 15.
