Khan got hit with a “Tarver Punch”, meaning it was a blind punch that Garcia threw, but the reason he was hit with it was his own fault.
Khan has a ton of talent. More talent than Danny Garcia and many of the fighters in the sports of boxing. Khan also has a ton of heart and bravado. The combination of talent and bravado is what has got him in trouble.
Khan doesn’t just want to box and win, he wants to brawl and knock people out. That is great for the fans, but not so much for Khan who’s chin is suspect at best.
From the opening bell it was clear that Khan had the superior speed and if he wanted to could box the shoes off Garcia and cruise to a decision or wear him down and possibly win by late knockout or TKO.
But, Khan doesn’t know how to ease off the gas and kept throwing wildly at times in the exchanges. In the corner Garcia’s trainer told him, if he shorten up the punches and countered he would catch him.
That is exactly what he did. I give Khan credit, never quit or gave up. He wanted to continue, but Kenny Bayless had seen enough.
Khan was staring at a date with Floyd Mayweather, but now his career is in a strange stage where he is a popular name that has come up small on the biggest stages.
