Hope Solo Admits to Being Drunk on ‘Today’ Show After Winning Gold Medal at 2008 Olympics
Hope Solo is a few days removed from testing positive for a banned substance thank to her PMS medicine. Now she is facing another controversy. In an interview for ESPN The Magazine’s “Body Issue” Solo admits that she was drunk during an appearance on the Today show in 2008 after winning the Gold Medal in Beijing.
Details from Kevin Connelly of USAToday.com
“When we were done partying, we got out of our nice dresses, got back into our stadium coats and, at 7 a.m. with no sleep, went on the Today show drunk,” she told ESPN The Magazine.
“Vince Vaughn partied with us. Steve Byrne, the comedian,” Solo continued. “And at some point we decided to take the party back to the village, so we started talking to the security guards, showed off our gold medals, got their attention and snuck our group through without credentials – which is absolutely unheard of.”
She also admitted that when Olympic athletes party, they party hard.
“Athletes are extremists,” Solo says. “When they’re training, it’s laser focus. When they go out for a drink, it’s 20 drinks.”
A lot of people will be critical of Solo for her “lack of professionalism” but NBC had to know the condition their interviewees might be in after celebrating a gold medal victory half way across the world. Remember when the whole cast of Cheers was bombed on the Tonight show after the did a live show that aired after the show’s finale?
