Maurice Jones-Drew Decides to Hold Out From Jaguars Training Camp
My position has always been if you sign a contract, you have to honor it. No one forced MJD to sign the deal he is currently in. Yes, MJD can hold out, but there isn’t anything he can really do if they Jags don’t want to redo his deal.
Personally, out of all the running backs that have begged for new deals MJD is probably the most deserving, based on the consistency of his performances, but it isn’t looking good for him.
The Jaguars have said they will not renegotiate Jones-Drew’s deal that has two years and roughly $9 million left on it.
Jones-Drew has rushed for more than 1,300 yards in each of the past three seasons and led the league in rushing last year with 1,606 yards. No other back has amassed more than 1,300 rushing yards in each of the past three years.
Jaguars owner Shad Khan indicated Wednesday he will not offer Jones-Drew a new contract, according to Florida Times-Union reports.
“There’s no decision here,” Khan told the newspaper.
“It’s his choice. There’s been very little for us to do rather than wait on whatever he might choose to do.”
