Daley finished 4th in his synchronized diving event. It was a disappointment because Daley and his partner were expected to medal. In years past fans didn’t really have a way to express to an athlete their disgust over them not living up to their expectations.
Then Twitter came along and everyone had an opinion.
In some cases very distasteful opinions.
Daley’s dad died of brain cancer a year earlier. The question begs is being distasteful something that you should be arrested for?
A spokeswoman for Dorset police said: “A 17-year-old man was arrested by Dorset police officers in the early hours this morning at a guesthouse in the Weymouth area on suspicion of malicious communications. He is currently helping police with their inquiries.”
To be honest if a person can be arrested for what the 17 year old said then half of Twitter would be in jail right now. What he said was horrible, but wasn’t threatening. It was just in bad taste and if they are arresting people for bad taste I have a bunch of Tweets sent to me they can go lock people up for.
