Depending on who you believe Witten could be out a couple of weeks, a month, half the season or the entire season. No one knows how his bleeding spleen is going to heal.
“Right now I’m doing alright,” Witten said to DallasCowboys.com. “I’m just going to take it a day at a time. Obviously, I’d be hard-pressed to imagine not being out there against the Giants. But there’s no timetable right now. It’s hard … just thinking about sitting in that hotel when the team is working. It’s a challenge. Ultimately it’s the best thing you can do for the team. We’ve got plenty of guys to pick up the slack. That’s not a concern. For me, I think it’s just get healthy as quickly as you can. We’ll regroup when we get back to Dallas.”
It is my opinion they should have had surgery immediately. He might have missed a couple of games at the beginning of the season, but you would have known when he was coming back.
The Cowboys are hoping and praying that rest heals the injury, but I am not confident in that.
