Tuesday afternoon, highly anticipated and rising basketball star Tony Farmer, was sentenced to three years in prison for kidnapping and the assault of his ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane.

The incident took place last April in Bedford Heights, Ohio in his apartment complex. According to the police report, Farmer argued with Lane, assaulted her and then proceed to take several items from her including a cell phone, laptop, debit card and keys.

Farmer is an 18 year old, 6’6 forward who was ranked top 100 in the 2013 class and was being recruited by Dayton, Xavier, Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois and W. Virginia.

Schools will have to wait 180 days for the sentence to be reviewed and see how the case proceeds.

There is so many things you can say about this situation but the bottom line is that its truly sad. Farmer had the opportunity to change not only his life but his family as well and in the blink of an eye, its all gone because of careless mistakes.

Yes, this young man blew a tremendous opportunity to gain fame and wealth by playing basketball at a top school and possibly a pro career in the NBA. But in the grand scheme of things, this tough jail sentence might be the thing he needs to get his life in order. Hopefully from this experience, he’ll learn that you cannot assault or kidnap a woman whether she’s your girlfriend or not.

  2. Showing up at someones home, is not a careless mistake. It was planned, decided upon, and enacted.

Repeatedly punching a woman in the face when shes down, dragging her around to continue beating her, kicking her in the head multiple times, then dragging her around some more and repeatedly punching and kicking her in the face.

Then sending threatening txt messages after a court mandated non-interaction order has been placed. Saying things like you should have beat her more.

These aren’t careless mistakes. This is someone that thinks he can do ANYTHING without being punished.

This is a further extension of the crime and corruption seen in professional sports – now fully extended to the high school level.

Its got to stop, sentences have to get progressively harsher until athletes stop thinking that they are guaranteed a good life because of talent.

I know everyone thinks his sentence was to much, I on the other hand feel it was needed, not just to show top atheletes can’t get away with everything but to show that you are accountable for everything you do in life. Life it’s self is not promised so cherish it and cherish those you claim to love… I do believe if the female he beat turned up dead and he got the sentence he got the out poor of unjustice would pour in.. so please be mindful of the life he could have taken that night and know the sentence could have been far more worse. Thank you

Careless mistakes? Hmmm, he left his girlfriend alive and breathing, pretty careless right!! Too bad there wasn’t a dead body, then you could find a way to spin it to show how the groupie got herself killed and HAD IT COMING.

You need to get your facts correct; it was her apartment building, not his.

  7. A criminal’s a criminal. He can reform or continue on the same road. The choice is his.

  8. Maybe Andrea can visit him in prison and ride his black pole till she screams!

  9. I sincerely hope you realize the extent of the misogyny in our culture that what is clearly felonious assault is viewed as a mistake by a fellow African-American female. Please, Ms. Luck, educate yourself. This story could be written as a triumph of justice over cultural corruption (the victim testified on behalf of the assailant,) but you chose the route that lacks any sense of morality.

  10. I think he got what he deserved, period!! I don’t care if she was his ex girlfriend and she testified on his behalf. He assaulted and robbed his victim, shame on her for testifing on his behalf and shame shame on the teachers and coaches for doing the same just because he could play a game. I bet if it were a teacher or the coaches wife things would be different. Go to jail you perp and maybe you can learn to act like a human instead of a savage…..

My heart goes out to all of them….the ex, the family, and him. I hope and pray that God gives them all the strength to get through this difficult time. Yes, you all are right. What he did was mean-spirited and wrong. However, he is barely 18, which means he is still a child in my eyes and what he did was childish. People make bad mistakes, the fact is…she is not dead. How stupid you all sound expressing unforgiveness, especially since the ex has forgiven him.
