A Corvallis, Oregon cheerleading coach who is already a registered sex offender, is being accused of raping a 17-year-old cheerleader while she was asleep.
According to Larry Brown Sports via Kval, 38-year-old David A. Chapman, faces charges of first degree rape and second degree sex abuse by a coach.
The alleged rape reportedly happened in September 2012 but wasn’t brought to light until the teen’s mother contacted the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in March.
Police in Corvallis took over the case since the crime allegedly happened at Chatman’s Corvallis apartment. The young lady said she went to Corvallis, Oregon to visit Chatman, who previously coached her at a cheerleading school in Tualitan, Oregon.
She told investigators that before she went to bed, she took prescription medicine to help her sleep. She said she awoke to find Chatman on top of her.
“He was raping me,” the teen told investigators, according to court documents. The young girl provided authorities with the underwear she was wearing at the time of the alleged assault, and a crime lab analysis has yet to be completed.
Police placed Chatman under arrest after interviewing him. He admitted that the girl came to stay with him in September.
He told police he thought the young girl was 19 and that the sex was consensual, according to court documents. He was arraigned, and plead not guilty to the charges.
Chatman is a registered sex offender after a 2007 incident on an airplane where he was convicted of touching a 16-year-old girl as she slept.
