Falcons Brent Grimes Out For Year With Achilles Injury

Hindsight being 20/20, the Atlanta Falcons are ecstatic that they traded for cornerback Asante Samuel earlier in the off-season.

The trade for Samuel was meant bolster an already decent secondary.  It now looks like that trade may save the Falcons season.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious Achilles injury.

Falcons coach Mike Smith opened his Monday press conference by announcing that cornerback Brent Grimes is heading to injured reserve. Grimes left Sunday’s game late with what was being called a calf injury, but an MRI revealed that Grimes suffered a major injury to his Achilles. He won’t be designated for a possible return, which means that Grimes is done for the year after less than one game.

It is a terrible injury for Grimes who was franchised by the Falcons this off-season and was headed towards a nice payday.

Grimes now will have plenty of time to get healthy and prove he can still be the tough, rugged corner that he built his reputation on.
