Rex Ryan simply just cannot help himself at times. Even after apparently eating a slice of humble pie when it comes to his brash Super Bowl predictions, he goes out of his way and makes not 1 but 2 ultra bold predictions.
When asked about putting Revis on the Injury Reserve list Ryan said he’s holding out for the quote “0.0002 percent chance that he could play in a Super Bowl or something…” So not only did Ryan just make a stealth Super Bowl prediction, but he’s stubbornly expecting Revis to make a miraculous return after an ACL tear. Hmmm.
First off all, let’s delve into the logic of the matter (just to save face) even if all the stars aligned and the Jets made it to a Superbowl Revis would have only had 4 months of rest. Coming off an ACL injury in four months (a 7 to 12 month injury) to play full contact football is frankly unheard of. Revis’ surgery isn’t even for another few weeks, so it’s safe to say the Jets won’t be seeing Revis for quite some time.
As things stand now the NFL allows each team to place one IR player with a ‘designated to return’ label Ryan is seriously giving credence to the possibility of giving Revis that title. Are we witnessing the latest publicity stunt by Ryan or is he actually a believer in miracles? Classic Rex Ryan nonetheless.
