Although he has no previous managerial experience at any level, it appears Jason Giambi has secured an interview with the Rockies for their vacant manager position. He actually underwent hernia surgery just last week to keep the option of playing in 2013 open so this is slightly surprising.
Even though he has no experience, he has worked with Rockies players on their hitting.
Per Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post: No official date for the interview has been set as of now. As of now, he is scheduled to be the last in-house candidate to interview before the Rockies turn their search elsewhere.
Assistant general manager Bill Geivett has made it known they will also look outside the organization, but was quoted as saying, ” we haven’t begun narrowing that list at this point.”
I assume Giambi knows steroids can’t help him become a great manager.
