Some questions simply don’t have a logical answer and this is one of them.
Actually, there is an answer. Kwame Brown is tall, rebounds fairly well and plays hard on the defensive end. If you do those three things, you can hang around the NBA for decades.
Kobe, who I believe now is just bored and trolling us for his amusement, seems perplexed that Kwame Brown has made over $60 million in his career.
Here is what Kobe had to say via Pro Basketball Talk.
“I don’t know how he convinced Philadelphia to cough up $7 million a year,” said Bryant, slightly inflating Brown’s salary. “They want to lock us out, but they’ll pay him $7 million.”
“You know what, he may have shown Andrew a couple of things though, especially on screen-and-roll coverages and one-on-one defense. Offensively? No way,” Bryant said. “Kwame, he’s a great defensive player. He’s one of the best defensive big men I’ve ever seen. But in terms of offense, he was challenged.”
Kobe numbers are a little off. The Sixers will pay Kwame a little under $6 million over the next two years. It was Golden State who paid him almost $7 million for his services last year (6 PPG & 6 RPG), nevertheless you get Kobe’s point.
I can say confidently though that Andrew Bynum isn’t listening to anything Kwame Brown is telling him.
Kobe was being kind saying Kwame Brown was offensively challenged. I would have used the phrase “God Awful”. At least Kobe found some positives in Kwame’s game unlike Smush Parker who he called a “walk on” with the Lakers.
