Seattle Taking Steps Towards Building Arena

Last time basketball was enjoyed by Seattle fans was 2008. After the 2007-2008 campaign, the SuperSonics franchise relocated to Oklahoma City. Multiple seasons of fifty plus wins and a NBA Finals appearance this summer has all but made the city of Seattle a mere thing of the past to the Thunder.

However, bitterness still exists in Seattle as many die-hard fans feel the Thunder should be accomplishing all of these things as the SuperSonics

Fear not, city of Seattle. Help seems to be on the way.

Per SI.Com: King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn recently signed legislation on the funding plan for construction of an arena that could possibly be used to lure the NBA back to Seattle.

The new arena plan is still subject to environmental reviews which reportedly could take up to a year to complete. But, the agreement gives the city the ability to go make a pitch to any NBA ownership looking to sell.

McGinn was quoted as saying, “We’ve taken a big step today to get a new arena built in Seattle and bring the Sonics back, back home where they belong.”

It is still extremely early in the process, but this is a strong first step to return the NBA to Seattle. I feel the loyal Supersonic fans certainly deserve a new team.
