The season for the Carolina Panthers has been a complete disappointing thus far. Cam Newton seems to have regressed, the team has only won 1 game, and now it seems they might be trying to clean house after general manager Marty Hurney has already been fired.
Running back DeAngelo Williams has had to deal with trade rumors, and now Steve Smith’s name has popped up in them as well.
However, Smight was very clear abut his desire to remain in Carolina.
According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, Smith said Wednesday that he plans to finish his career in Carolina, unless he’s cut.
Smith doesn’t have a no trade clause, so if the Panthers wanted to cut ties with him they would be certainly within their right. But with the struggles of Cam Newton, I would think they would keep his favorite weapon in town.
