Try to contain your excitement….The 5th season of Basketball Wives has officially begun taping, but the show’s future is very much in jeopardy. The reality series stars, Shaunie O’Neal, Evelyn Lozada, Tami Roman, and Suzie Ketcham, have not inked contracts with network VH1, and reportedly all want a major increase in pay due to the show’s popularity. VH1 is not budging and has refused to pay the increase, letting it be known that if anyone had a problem with their current salary they could easily be replaced.
The show’s cast began taping this week in hopes that a deal would be worked out, but neither side is willing to budge. Reports are that the women plan to walk out if the two sides can’t come to an agreement by next week.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the beginning of the end for Basketball Wives. The show began losing its luster last season amidst backlash caused by its constant portrayal of catty violence, and quite frankly the whole series has become old. VH1 has made their money making a mockery of these women’s lives, and they know there are plenty more women vying for attention that will allow them to do the same cheaper.
