Former NFL star Jerramy Stevens was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.
According to the Seattle PD, Jerramy Stevens and Olympic soccer star Hope Solo have been dating for 2 months and are engaged to be married. However, an altercation last night may have thrown a wrench in their plans to wed today.
The police were called by Hope’s brother Marcus who reported that there was a fight between him and a group of men who showed up at the house unannounced. While Marcus was outside talking to police Hope Solo came outside with blood and a fresh cut on her elbow. She was not cooperative and yelled to her brother;
“Don’t say anything to them, Marcus”
Officers decided to search the home, where they found 8 intoxicated people, drops of blood, a woman lying in the kitchen with a hip injury, and Stevens on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. When police asked Stevens why he was hiding on the floor behind the bed, Stevens said he was sleeping.
Police did notice blood on Stevens face and shirt. According to the police report, when asked where the blood came from, he explained that the blood on his face may have come from Solo kissing him, but had no explanation for the blood on this shirt. He also went on to say that he and Solo had been arguing about where they would live once married. Police say it is standard that an arrest be made in domestic violence calls, and since Stevens admitted to arguing with Solo, he was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault but not charged. This morning, during his court appearance the judge quickly released Stevens saying there was no evidence connecting him to any assault.
The Kirkland Police department says they will still meet with prosecutors to decide whether charges will be filed against Stevens, but did admit that there may not be enough evidence to formally charge the former NFL star. They cited that witnesses and Hope Solo have not cooperated with them.
This is not Jerramy Stevens’ first run-in with the law. Last year he was arrested for allegedly attacking two security guards at a bar in Tampa, FL. During college he plead guilty to a hit-in-run when he drove into a nursing home and was arrested and accused of sexual assault, but charges were never filed due to lack of evidence. He has also been charged in numerous other crimes throughout the years:
- On June 2, 1998, Stevens was arrested on charges of second-degree assault armed with a deadly weapon and fourth-degree assault.
- On July 10, 1998, Stevens tested positive for marijuana and served a day in jail.
- On April 3, 2003, Stevens was stopped by Medina, Washington police and was charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.
- On March 13, 2007, Stevens was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona for suspicion of DUI.
- On October 23, 2010, Stevens was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
A BSO source who knows Jerramy says he’s a “good guy.” He went on to describe him as one of the most intelligent and mannerly guys he knows- a good father and friend, who is just very outspoken, and quick to react.
Whether this is in fact a justifiable case of domestic violence we will probably never know. I must say the reports by police and the circumstances around why they decided to arrest Stevens seem somewhat sketchy, but you can’t help but wonder why trouble tends to follow him….
No reports yet on if the wedding is still on.
