It would make sense because Smith would fit in with D’Antoni’s system better than Pau Gasol. According to ESPN Marc Stein the Lakers have reached out to the Hawks, but so far the Hawks have resisted.

That could change though as it gets closer to the trading deadline and they realize that the Smith isn’t going to resign with the team.  The Hawks may shop Smith around to the highest bidder, but if they best player they can get back is Gasol, don’t be shocked if the deal goes down.
